Scott Peterson introduced himself as the newly hired economic and community coordinator for the Blackduck Development Corporation (BDC) and told the council about his early outreach around town.
Peterson said he has spent two weeks visiting business owners, managers and residents to inventory wants and needs; the most repeated requests were for a coffee shop, bakery/ice-cream options and more consistent restaurant hours. He described a mix of resident preferences (some favoring a local family-owned cafe, others preferring a drive‑thru format) and suggested that signage and aesthetic improvements on Main Street could help draw visitors.
Peterson noted the BDC is trying to clarify its identity in the public eye — several residents assumed it was a city department — and said the corporation will work with regional partners for guidance and assistance. He proposed outreach events, discussions with property owners about improving facades, and a focus on supporting current businesses rather than recruiting only new chains.
The council thanked Peterson for the presentation and encouraged continued business outreach and coordination with the chamber and other local stakeholders.
