Youth soccer group seeks practice field at Tai Schmid Park; council asks staff to draft rental agreement

Way Jackson and Dustin Creson said their association has expanded and currently rents fields outside the area; they proposed carving a 9v9 practice footprint primarily for practices, not games, and requested staff help on parking and scheduling. "Proximity would be a big gain for our parents," one representative said, noting roughly 20% of players live in Birchwood.
Council members told the soccer board there is a grant of approximately $85,000 to address park drainage and that staff will coordinate drainage planning and site suitability. Council moved to direct staff to work with the soccer group and the parks committee to draft a rental agreement and to return with a plan for final council approval next month.
Council emphasized respect for neighborhood parking and seasonal construction impacts tied to planned lift-station and drainage work.
