Survey shows developmental assets; enrollment steady at 765, YMCA childcare deferred

At its June 8 meeting the Thompson Board of Education received a presentation of youth-development survey results and routine district updates from the superintendent.
Jennifer Buckley of SERAC summarized findings from the Search Institute's Developmental Assets Profile survey, describing the tool as research-based and useful for identifying local strengths and student supports to reduce high-risk behaviors. Superintendent Melinda Smith reported the district's June 1 enrollment as 765 students. Smith also said the YMCA needs additional time to finalize a proposed employee childcare program (infant and toddler care) and is expected to return with details at a future meeting or special session.
Smith also acknowledged receiving the CAPSS President's Award and publicly thanked colleagues; the board expressed appreciation for staff efforts. The meeting included a recognition of Mary Ellen Jones for her leadership of the Specialized Autism program and work with the Northeast Early Childhood Council and School Readiness Grant funding.
