Thompson Board adopts revisions to student dress, tuition waiver and behavior reporting policies

The Thompson Board of Education voted unanimously on March 9 to adopt three policy updates recommended by its Policy Sub-Committee.
The board approved a revised Student Dress policy intended to be clearer and more consistently enforced. It also approved a minor change to the Tuition Waiver policy to clarify the superintendent’s discretion to waive tuition in appropriate cases, and it adopted an updated Behavior Reporting Form described by the committee as more efficient and modern.
"The committee reviewed three policies and is recommending them for board approval," Policy Sub-Committee member Matthew Polsky reported. Individual motions were made and carried without dissent: Kathleen Herbert moved to approve the Student Dress revision (seconded by Kristin Schultz); Matthew Polsky moved approval of the Tuition Waiver update (seconded by Kristin Schultz); and Kristin Schultz moved approval of the Behavior Reporting Form (seconded by Matthew Polsky).
The board also reviewed correspondence from Woodstock Academy requesting FY2027 tuition rates and a five-year projection of tuition increases. Woodstock provided FY2027 tuition information but said it could not provide an accurate five-year projection; the board reviewed Pomfret Board of Education data showing that tuition increases to Woodstock Academy averaged about 4.6% per year over the past five years.
There were no citizens’ comments specific to the new policies at this meeting; the board adjourned at 7:43 p.m.
