The Thompson Board of Education on June 8 authorized the district Building Committee to begin advancing bond-funded school projects while the board awaits formal financing expected in January.
Superintendent Melinda Smith told the board that although bond financing will not be secured until January, there are planning steps that can realize cost savings in the interim. The board approved a motion by Justin Yong, seconded by Matthew Polsky, to move the projects under the oversight of the Building Committee so the committee may develop requests for proposals and oversee competitive bidding.
The motion passed unanimously. Board members said early planning and RFP development will position the district to move quickly once financing is finalized.
Next steps: Building Committee staff will begin drafting RFPs and advancing project planning; work undertaken now is intended to reduce costs and accelerate implementation after financing closes.
