Firefighter sworn in; Hugo announces holiday events and City Hall closure

The Hugo City Council recognized departmental appointments and community events during its Dec. 1 meeting.
Fire Chief Jim Compton Jr. introduced probationary firefighter Tony Dela Rosa, said Dela Rosa completed two years of EMS and fire training and department competency checks, and administered the oath. After the swearing-in, Dela Rosa thanked the council and family: "I'd like to thank you for this opportunity of giving me the the opportunity to serve and protect the city." Mayor Mary White congratulated Dela Rosa and thanked him for volunteering.
Staff also reminded the council and public about several upcoming community events: the Santa party and mayor’s tree lighting ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Peter Peterson Pavilion; the city's annual holiday party (date/time as announced); and the Hugo Fire Department's 'Stuff the Truck' food-and-toy drive on Saturday, Dec. 6, with donation locations including the fire station and Festival Foods parking lot. Staff recommended, and the council approved, closing City Hall on Dec. 26 so employees could use a collective personal holiday.
These items were handled as administrative presentations and announcements and required no further council action beyond approval of the City Hall closure.
