Hugo council hears Yellow Ribbon Network report on care packages, volunteers and events

The Hugo City Council received an update on Nov. 3 from the Yellow Ribbon Network documenting recent volunteer activity in support of service members and military families.
Chair Chuck Haas told the council the group held 32 events in the last quarter, supported about 500 service members, spent approximately $45,000 on operations, recorded more than 600 volunteer hours (valued at about $18,000), and sent more than 500 care packages. Haas highlighted partnerships and fundraising events, including Culver's burger nights (which donated $1 from certain menu items) and donations coordinated with the United Heroes League for sports equipment. He said a certificate and American flag flown on Aug. 15, 2025 over Iraq during a combat mission were returned with a note from Master Sergeant Ryan Anderson thanking the Hugo team for care packages.
Haas said the Yellow Ribbon Network's Facebook posts reached about 15,000 views in the last 28 days and that a military appreciation hunt filled roughly 80 slots in three days. Council members thanked the volunteers and agreed to display the returned certificate on the city wall. "Keep them caffeinated," Haas read from the note he received that thanked the group for coffee and support.
