The Hubbard‑Radcliffe Community School District board, meeting jointly with Eldora‑New Providence on Oct. 14, approved a series of routine district actions including a facilities contract and state funding requests.
The board voted unanimously to award an audiovisual contract for the South Hardin Middle School (SHMS) auditorium to DB Acoustics for $55,839.10. The motion to approve the contract was made by Laura Imsland and seconded by Kelli Miller and carried without dissent. The board also set a public hearing for Nov. 18, 2024, to consider expending funds from the district flexibility account for the SHMS audiovisual work.
The board approved two state funding actions to address program deficits and costs. Members approved a request to the State Budget Review Committee (SBRC) for modified allowable growth and supplemental aid totaling $135,071.20 to cover the district’s special education deficit for the 2023‑24 school year. The board also authorized district administration to submit an English Learners Excess Cost Application for $52,600.70. Both motions carried unanimously.
On enrollment and personnel matters, the board unanimously denied an open enrollment request (moved by Marty Eide, seconded by Laura Imsland). The board accepted the resignation of softball coach Michaela Berg for the 2024‑25 school year (motion by Kelli Miller) and approved an employment contract for Jamie Stephens as a part‑time custodian (motion by Laura Imsland). The board also approved the fall 2024 Whole Grade Sharing proration and completed its review of the 200 Series of board policies.
Board members appointed Jacob Bolson to serve as the district representative to the Hardin County Assessor’s Conference Board. Trustees discussed IASB convention registrations but did not designate an IASB delegate for the upcoming Delegate Assembly.
The meeting included a roll‑call motion to enter closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(i) for a personnel evaluation of Superintendent Dr. Zellmer; the board entered closed session at 9:05 p.m. and returned to open session at 9:37 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 9:38 p.m.
