Council approves pool change order; staff reports submerged pump, power blip and ongoing leaks

Council approved the change order to address increased saturation around the pool basin and to install a permanent pump replacement; the amount was read into the record and carried by voice vote. Staff described the technical issues encountered after opening: a GFI had tripped and left a pump submerged in the slide pit; a short power blip the next morning caused several pumps to trip as a protective measure; and a leak in the pipe between the two sump pits has led to continuous pumping and water loss.
Staff said they have installed GFI breakers where missing, isolated the submerged pump, and plan to repair the inter-pit pipe using a foam sealant designed for submerged conditions. The new heater units required a sequence of control resets and individual unit turn-ons; staff said temperatures had recovered from a low of about 72 degrees to roughly 82 degrees after troubleshooting.
The mayor and staff commended Jacob, a pool employee, for quick action to shut down the pump and help manage the situation. Staff said chairs on backorder will arrive in July and that further minor fixes (chlorinator, signage, seating) are planned as renovations continue.
What’s next: staff will continue troubleshooting the leak between pits, monitor pump and heater performance, and implement the approved change order to stabilize pool operations.
