Mount Vernon council honors retiring police chief; Jason Blinks sworn in

The Mount Vernon City Council on June 16 heard farewell remarks from the outgoing police chief and administered the oath of office to Jason Blinks as the new chief of police for the cities of Mount Vernon and Lisbon.
The retiring chief, speaking during the communications portion of the evening, thanked residents, city staff and community partners “for the support, your trust, your willingness to engage in open dialogue,” and called serving as police chief “one of the greatest honors of my life.” He recalled beginning the DARE program in local schools and said he left the job confident in the department’s future.
After applause from council and members of the public, Jason Blinks took the oath: “I, Jason Blinks, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States…and that I will faithfully and impartially to the best of my ability discharge all the duties of the office of chief of police in the cities of Mount Vernon and Lisbon.” Council members congratulated Blinks following the ceremony.
The council did not take formal personnel action beyond the swearing-in at the meeting; the oath was recorded as witnessed on June 16, 2025. No immediate operational changes were announced at the meeting.
The council moved on to regular business after the swearing-in.
