The Spirit Lake City Council voted unanimously Dec. 9 to authorize the city attorney to proceed, via the sellers’ real estate broker, with an offer to purchase property at 408 Lake Street.
Mayor Kevin Bice called the special meeting to order at noon in the City Council Chambers. During the meeting Councilmember Brockmeyer moved and Councilmember Johnson seconded a motion to convene a closed session pursuant to Iowa Code section 21.5(1)(j). A roll call vote recorded Councilmembers Johnson, Kofoot, Brockmeyer, Chappas and Mensing as "Aye." The council subsequently returned to open session.
After resuming open session, Councilmember Brockmeyer again moved and Councilmember Johnson seconded a motion authorizing City Attorney Gregg Owens to proceed through the sellers’ real estate broker with an offer of purchase for the property at 408 Lake Street. The motion carried unanimously.
The meeting record does not specify the proposed purchase price, terms of the offer, or next procedural steps; the council’s action authorized the city attorney to make the offer via the sellers’ broker. The council then approved a motion to adjourn, carried unanimously.
City officials present for the special meeting were Mayor Kevin Bice; Councilmembers Johnson, Kofoot, Brockmeyer, Chappas and Mensing; and City Attorney Gregg Owens. The agenda and minutes list the actions taken but do not include further detail about the property or the seller.
