The Starmont Community School District Board held a work session on Dec. 3, 2024, in the high school conference room to review facilities needs and next steps for building improvements. President Tony Recker called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM and the board recorded a quorum.
Mike Tucker of Martin Gardner Architecture presented and "went through the KCL Engineering report from 2021," summarizing the district's prior engineering assessment for the board's consideration. Board members and administrators used the presentation and a question-and-answer period to discuss how to translate the report's findings into a set of prioritized projects.
During open discussion, a suggestion was made to form a committee with representatives from each community in the district to develop a priority list of building projects and bring that recommendation to the board. The board did not take a formal vote on creating the committee during the work session; the suggestion was recorded as the next-step idea arising from the discussion.
Procedural business at the start and end of the session included a motion by board member Julie Uhlenkamp to approve the agenda "as presented," seconded by Jacob Moellers; the motion carried 4-0. At the close of the session, Jacob Moellers moved to adjourn, seconded by Vicki Althoff; the meeting adjourned at 7:49 PM.
The session was convened as a work session rather than a formal, decision-making board meeting; the presentation and suggestion to form a community committee indicate the board is gathering information and stakeholder input before any formal actions on specific capital projects.
