St. James names official newspaper, bank depositories and several mayoral appointments

At its Jan. 6 meeting the St. James City Council approved a series of routine annual administrative items: designation of the city’s official newspaper and official depositories, mayoral appointments to boards and commissions, and acceptance of a $1,000 donation to the fire department from Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 3420.
Staff presented resolution 1.26.02 to name the "St. James plane dealer" as the official newspaper for city business in 2026 and noted the newspaper has served in that role for many years. The council dispensed with the reading and approved the resolution. Council also approved resolution 1.26.03 establishing authorized city depositories (Pioneer Bank of St. James; First National Bank of St. James; Minnesota Municipal Money Market Fund; Morton Capital Markets LLC; Edward Joan Investment Branch of St. James) as required by state law.
On appointments, staff said Jacob Beckis and Steve Finstead remained on the planning commission; the Economic Development Authority recommended Travis El to fill a vacancy after Dean’s retirement; and the housing authority recommended an appointment (identified in the record as Stevie) to the housing board. The council approved the mayoral appointments by resolution 1.26.06.
The council also accepted a $1,000 gift from Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 3420 for the fire department under resolution 1.26.10 and thanked the donor.
