St. James approves state grants for airport fence, acquisition plan and pavement work

The St. James City Council on Jan. 6 approved three state airport fund grants from the Minnesota Department of Transportation to support projects at the municipal airport.
Staff said resolution 1.26.07 (Agreement 1062047) provides funding for a terminal‑area security fence and gate. Resolution 1.26.08 (Agreement 1062043) will fund an acquisition plan to address property interests in the runway clear zone, a requirement following recent state law changes that direct localities to own clear‑zone property or document acquisition plans. Resolution 1.26.09 (Agreement 1062046) supports runway, taxiway and apron pavement improvements included in the city’s capital improvement plan.
"This grant is giving the city funding to complete this plan for our airport," staff said about the acquisition‑plan grant, and later noted the pavement work is funded and ready to move forward. Each resolution was presented, the council dispensed with their readings and voted to approve the grant agreements.
What comes next: staff will coordinate project timelines and grant administration with MnDOT and incorporate the airport projects into the city’s CIP scheduling and procurement process.
