Board recognizes custodial staff and approves FFA students’ trip to national convention

The Humboldt Community School District Board of Education presented Champions for Children awards and approved student travel to the National FFA Convention during its May 19 meeting.
President Tate Satern presented Champions for Children awards to custodial staff members recognized for keeping district buildings and grounds clean and organized: Steve Uribe, Dana Westphal, Joline Schulze, Alan Graves, Susan Marchant and Molly Peaton. Additional staff recognized for “going above and beyond” included Jen Larson and Kayla Long; several other named recipients were not in attendance.
FFA students Adalyn Vinsand and Tyson Crahan highlighted the 2024–25 school year and discussed plans for the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. By motion — Mertz moved and Burres Youngs seconded — the board approved student travel to Indianapolis, Indiana for the National FFA Convention, scheduled Oct. 29–Nov. 1, 2025. The motion carried unanimously. Students and advisors left the meeting after the vote.
Superintendent Jim Murray also recognized the school board for School Board Recognition Month during the meeting. The board adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
