The Olivia City Council approved an adjustment to the pending purchase agreement for the Chrysler Center property after staff reported the building’s HVAC system is beyond repair and supplied contractor estimates.
Staff told the council that any new public road required to serve the site would have to be constructed at the buyer’s expense and that the city would not vacate right-of-way absent an available public alignment. Two HVAC companies inspected the Chrysler Center and concluded the system was beyond repair; staff presented a low quote from Chapel Central in the $11,000–$12,000 range.
Council member Evers moved, and Council member Howard seconded, a motion "to adjust the purchase price of the Chrysler Building property to reflect 50% of the estimated cost of updating the HVAC system." After no further discussion, the motion carried on a voice vote.
Councilors emphasized they want a firm closing date from the buyer before committing to share repair costs, and staff said the agreed cost-share will be added to the purchase agreement so the city can recoup the 50% contribution at closing. No other changes to the purchase price were specified at the meeting.
