Council authorizes negotiations on boutique hotel near Miami Gardens Performing Arts Center

The Miami Gardens City Council on June 24 authorized city staff to negotiate a lease and comprehensive agreement with P3 Markets LLC and Beckham Hospitality LLC for city property located at 18600 Northwest 25th Avenue, where officials said a boutique hotel of about 175 keys is proposed adjacent to the Performing Arts Center.

City Manager’s office staff described the item as a development opportunity that would build a hotel behind City Hall and connect to the Performing Arts Center. The manager thanked Deputy City Manager Craig Clay, Economic Development Director George Wright and Assistant City Attorney Zachary Stokes for their work on negotiations.

Council moved and seconded the item and approved the authorization by roll call. The clerk recorded unanimous "yes" votes from Councilwoman Baskett, Councilman Leon, Councilwoman Powell, Vice Mayor Stevens and Mayor Rodney Harris.

The council's action authorized staff to continue negotiations and to prepare a final deal for a future adoption vote; it did not finalize a lease or construction schedule. City staff said negotiations would proceed and that the item would return to the council for approval of a final agreement and any ordinance required to execute the lease.

Council members praised the administration’s work to recruit development that staff said would support the Performing Arts Center and spur activity along the corridor. No formal public opposition was recorded during the item’s presentation and vote.

Next steps: staff will proceed with negotiations and report back to the council with a final agreement for approval.
