Organizers of Lisbon’s 150th centennial, coordinated with Sauerkraut Days activities, briefed the council on a tentative schedule and asked the council to accommodate centennial-specific items in addition to the city’s usual event support.
Staff outlined standard arrangements — street closures, picnic-table setups and an ice-cream social at the new sports complex — and said most activities would be funded by donations or third-party sponsorship. Organizers asked the council to consider a contingency for centennial expenses and mentioned a figure of $6,000; council members noted the usual appropriation for events is $3,000 and proposed tentatively setting aside $3,000 while allowing the centennial committee to request additional appropriations at a future meeting if needed.
Council and staff also discussed operational details: closing the splash pad from Wednesday night through the following Monday to accommodate carnival activities, staging and overflow parking options at the sports complex, and plans for concession operations and volunteer staffing. Parks staff reminded the council that fall flag football and soccer registration is open and that Back-to-School Night will be held Aug. 21.
What’s next: the centennial committee will use the tentatively reserved funds and return to council with any specific additional funding requests; staff will finalize street-closure logistics and parking plans ahead of Sauerkraut Days.
