Marshalltown — At its June 21 meeting the Marshalltown City Council approved a series of routine and substantive items by roll call, including budget- and land-use-related votes.
Major items approved
- Consent agenda: Approved by unanimous roll call.
- City fee schedule: Council adopted a resolution to update the fee schedule, effective July 1, 2025.
- Collections contract: The council authorized an agreement with Municipal Collections of America, Inc. to collect unpaid automated traffic-enforcement citations after staff told the council the prior vendor had gone out of business.
- Property sales: The council approved a purchase agreement for 501 North First Avenue (buyer Troy Klene, $10,000) with permit and construction timelines and a city right of reversion if the buyer does not meet deadlines. The council also approved sales of 915 and 919 South Center Street to Dean Laws ($1,000 each) with demolition or relocation timelines and permit requirements.
- Ordinances: The council completed third readings and adopted multiple zoning and code amendments, including Ordinances 15101, 15102, 15103, 15104, 15106 and 15107. Ordinance 15108 (offenses concerning minors, including a standardized 11 p.m. curfew for under-18s and updated tobacco-sale/possession language) received a first reading and will return for a subsequent vote.
