Huxley departments report bridge work, developments and facility updates

HUXLEY CITY — City department leaders briefed the council on ongoing projects and operational issues during the July 23 meeting.
Public Works Director Jeff Peterson said the bridge replacement project is on schedule. City Engineer Forrest Aldrich reported that Westview and Anthem developments are currently laying pipe and making progress. Street Superintendent Mat Kahler said work on E. 3rd Street is underway and prior issues at Plat 4 have been resolved.
Parks and Recreation Director Heather Dengler provided additional updates on the splash pad and said the Tree Board tentatively plans plantings on Ridgewood Drive; she also said an elevator is out of service until a part can be ordered and installed. Fire Chief Travis Woodbeck reported a first-responder vehicle struck a deer; the council record lists that as an operational incident. City Clerk Barb Barrick said the FY23 audit has been printed and the FY24 audit is expected to be scheduled in late August or early September. City Administrator David Haugland noted the Iowa DOT will meet at Huxley City Hall Thursday morning.
Mayor Dave Kuhn thanked Parks staff for Party in the Park turnout and noted changes in Iowa law regarding remote participation that will affect future council meetings. The updates were provided for council information; no formal votes were taken on these departmental reports.
