Superintendent reports 8,000 students back, unveils new Chapter 74 vocational program at Taunton High

Superintendent Mr. Cabral told the Taunton School Committee on Sept. 3 that the 2025–26 school year opened with about 8,000 students returning and that PreK and Kindergarten students, starting Sept. 8, are expected to add roughly 500 more for a projected total of about 8,500 students.
Cabral said the district held two professional development days coordinated by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Chris Baratta and Director of Special Education Amy Moynihan, and he described a convocation on Aug. 27 that unveiled the district’s five-year strategic plan and a new logo under the themes “Taunton Public Schools: Where you Belong” and “Leading with Dignity.” He also said the district honored six recipients with inaugural legacy awards.
The superintendent reported that the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education approved an Early Education and Care program at Taunton High School as a Chapter 74 vocational program, bringing the number of Chapter 74 vocational programs in the district to nine. Cabral thanked several staff members for their work on the approval and said he will publicly announce the legacy-award recipients and post a video link online.
Cabral credited Human Resources Director Shannon Turner for getting staffing to about 96% with four classroom vacancies and thanked facilities and operations staff for building readiness. He said the district plans school visits and would post additional materials online.
