Council approves 2025 street repairs and park upgrades

The Oronoco City Council on June 17 approved public works projects to address deferred street maintenance and park upgrades.
Kane, a public works staff member, presented nine quantity‑priced maintenance projects drawn from a $50,000 street maintenance line. The projects include crack filling, seal coating, line striping, minor curb work and localized black-top patching; the approach allows the city to select priority items now and follow up with a fall round after pavement-planning work is completed. Council approved the public works proposal to move forward this summer.
On parks, staff requested replacement of 10 picnic tables (part of 53 total), additional playground‑safe mulch to maintain the recommended 12‑inch depth in high‑use areas, and installation of nonrot plastic border timbers to replace failing wooden timbers. Staff noted funding availability across repair/maintenance and recreational budgets (packet shows approximately $29,618 available across three categories). Council approved the purchases and asked staff to prioritize the worst‑condition tables for replacement.
Council also approved hiring a part‑time custodian (15–20 hours/week, named in discussion as Ezra) to support maintenance work.
Council instructed staff to coordinate the street and park work with pavement management planning and to return with project scheduling details.
