Oronoco’s City Council approved the Gold Rush 2025 license agreement on June 17 after agreeing to narrow language and correct an exhibit that inaccurately described property control near the Fire Hall.
The council pulled the license from the consent agenda for discussion about a recital in the contract that described the city as the “owner” of public streets. Mel, a city staff member, said the contract text was unchanged from last year’s agreement and was willing to accept edits. Attorney/representative Mike suggested replacing “owner” with “controls” to reflect municipal authority without implying fee‑simple ownership. “You could just write it this way: the licensor controls the public streets,” he said.
Council members also flagged Exhibit A, which showed a 15‑foot setback on the block by the Fire Hall where staff said the city does not hold a fee interest. A council member moved to amend the exhibit to identify the correct segment of First Avenue Northwest and to remove the inaccurate right‑of‑way description; the amendment was accepted as a friendly change.
The motion to approve the license agreement as amended carried by voice vote. The council directed staff to finalize the revision, change the recital language to read that the city “controls” the streets, correct the exhibit map and then distribute the updated agreement to all parties.
The license covers Gold Rush Days scheduled for August 15–17, 2025; staff said timeliness was a consideration because insurers and vendors need the finalized agreement ahead of the event. The amended agreement will be circulated to council and the Gold Rush organizers once the edits are made.
