Waterford appoints Anne Darling to two boards and corrects commission term dates

The Waterford Board of Selectmen on Jan. 20 approved multiple appointments and voted to correct discrepancies between the Shellfish Commission directory and the town ordinance.

Anne Darling, of Shore Road, thanked the board during public comment for her recent selection as a zoning board alternate and expressed interest in serving on shellfish- and erosion-related commissions. The board later moved to appoint Darling to the Shellfish Commission and to the Flood and Erosion Control Board to fill vacant member seats; both motions were approved by voice vote.

The appointment discussion centered on an apparent mismatch between the membership listed in the town directory and the number and staggered term schedule specified in the ordinance. A board member (Sue) presented a spreadsheet showing the ordinance calls for seven members and identified several terms in the directory that do not align with the ordinance schedule. The board agreed to amend the motion for Darling's slot to fill the remainder of a term and to correct the public record so all terms comply with the ordinance schedule.

The board also approved the appointment of Gina Rubin (unaffiliated) to the Economic Development Commission to fill a vacant term; Rubin thanked the board when recognized.

The board directed staff to work with the town clerk to reconcile directory listings and ordinance language and to bring corrected term dates back at a future meeting. No additional votes on charter or commission structure were taken.

The meeting moved on after the appointments were recorded; the board said it would follow up next month to finalize any additional term-date corrections.
