Superintendent Cabral presented a draft five-year strategic plan to the Taunton School Committee on June 18, saying the plan is grounded in local data and community voice and was developed with Attuned Education Partners and funding support from the Barr Foundation.
The plan centers on four priority areas: rigorous instruction, student culture, talent development and stakeholder engagement. Cabral said the district collected 955 survey responses and multiple data points to inform priorities and will use phased implementation and year-by-year data to measure progress.
Cabral acknowledged district strengths and flagged concerns including academic achievement, discipline, equity and declining test scores. Committee member Ms. Santos asked for clearer definitions of 'rigor' in the plan and raised concerns about disproportionate suspension rates for Black and Hispanic/Latino students; she asked whether racial-bias training or related initiatives could be part of student-culture work. Cabral said teams of educators and stakeholders will identify specific action steps during implementation.
The committee voted to accept and place the strategic plan presentation on file. Cabral said staff would receive a full plan at convocation and that the committee would receive updates as the district launches implementation and measurement activities.
