Committee advances Pre-K expansion, Chapter 74 approval and Friedman roof/solar project

Under new business, Mr. Cabral updated members on the final stages of DESE Chapter 74 approval for the Early Education and Care program; the committee voted to accept the Chapter 74 program report as part of the approval process.
On facilities, Cabral reported the Friedman School roof replacement and solar installation will begin Friday, June 20, 2025 (following the June 18 last day of school) and is expected to take about two months. He estimated the completed project should yield approximately $150,000–$200,000 in annual electric-cost savings. The committee authorized Cabral to contact the city about a possible celebration when the project finishes.
The committee received the Pre-K and Chapter 74 updates and approved the Friedman project report and related follow-up.
