Taunton committee approves field trips, surplus donations and $1.64 million in FY26 bills

Under Finance and Law business, the committee reviewed contracted legal services for special education and a Chamberlain Elementary solar inspection (one faulty unit to be replaced under warranty). The committee approved the disposal of surplus equipment; an amendment removed attic turf stock and turf shock pads from the online auction platform GovDeals so they could be donated to a local organization. District staff said GovDeals had generated nearly $15,000 in revenue to date.
The committee approved FY25 bills payable in the amount of $52,375.50 and FY26 bills payable totaling $1,636,170.52. During discussion members identified vendor details added to the packet and amended the FY26 motion to record Chairman Dr. DeMelo as 'present' on a Pride Inc. item due to his role on its board; the amended motion then passed. Superintendent Cabral reported the district is 99% staffed with a few vacancies and that enrollment was certified at 8,256 students as of Oct. 1, 2025; he said that pre-K counts and part-time status will affect final Chapter 70 foundation calculations.
