Buchanan County EDC outlines 2022 work as residents press sheriff on vandalism and trespass

At the Feb. 8 Lamont City Council meeting Lisa Kremer of the Buchanan County Economic Development Commission presented the commission's 2022 annual report, detailing programs meant to support local business and housing.
Kremer highlighted the Key Business Grant and the Catalyst Grant completion, the availability of a revolving loan fund, facade update efforts and interest in upper-story housing. Council members asked questions about how to entice businesses to Lamont; Kremer answered those questions and the commission offered follow-up assistance.
Earlier in the meeting a representative of the Buchanan County Sheriff's Department reported that deputies logged 38 hours of service in January and listed calls for service that included an assault, a gas drive-off, a property dispute and a car accident. Several residents in attendance told the council they were concerned about young people trespassing on private property, encouraging fights, being disrespectful and committing vandalism. The sheriff's office recommended residents contact the department when incidents occur so deputies can respond.
The BCEDC presentation was delivered as part of the council's regular agenda and was recorded in the minutes for council members to use in future community and economic-development discussions. The council did not record any formal actions tied directly to the EDC presentation at this meeting.
