The Lake City Council approved the consent agenda at its Feb. 3 meeting and took a mix of approvals and tablings on agenda items. Councilperson Wilson moved to approve the consent agenda (agenda, Jan. 20 regular and closed-session minutes, and a summary list of claims); Councilperson Vogt seconded and the motion passed with all ayes.
On individual items, Councilperson Gorden moved to approve the Edwards‑Schaffer building permit; Councilperson Wilson seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Council accepted "Thank a Citizen" nominations for formal acknowledgement at the Feb. 17 meeting after a motion by Wilson and a second by Vogt.
Several proposed items were tabled for additional information. Councilperson Vogt moved to table Resolution 2025-4 (review and acceptance of the Blair donation), citing a need for more information; the motion was seconded by Councilperson Wilson and passed unanimously. Vogt also moved to table Resolution 2025-2 (expand City Hall office hours) until the full Council could consider it and moved to table Resolution 2025-3 (set pool wages and authorize hiring of lifeguards and an instructor), requesting last year’s wage information before action; both motions were seconded by Wilson and passed with all ayes. A proposed closed session under Iowa Code 21.5 was likewise tabled on Vogt’s motion.
City staff provided brief updates. Public Works Director Janssen reported no items for discussion. Community Building Manager Hannah Streeter‑Halvorsen reported a strong turnout at the recent Bridal Bash and discussed past and upcoming events. Council discussed proposed email addresses for council and mayor and noted board vacancies; a budget workshop was set for 4:30–6:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, prior to the regular meeting.
The minutes include a claims report listing vendor payments and a total of $198,779.61 for the period Jan. 17–Jan. 31, 2025; the largest single vendor amount listed is an insurance payment to Mid Iowa Insurance for $109,449.00. The meeting adjourned at 6:32 p.m.
The council’s next regular meeting is Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
