Lamont council approves consent agenda, appointments and FY25 law contract

The Lamont City Council approved its consent agenda and monthly financial reports at the Jan. 10 regular meeting and confirmed a series of administrative appointments and resolutions.
The consent agenda, moved by Michael Slack and seconded by Paul Lincoln, included the January meeting agenda, December minutes, a list of payroll and vendor bills, December receipts and the treasurer’s report. The clerk’s report listed total expenditures of $48,637.78 (by fund) and December receipts of $39,680.42. The minutes itemize payroll and payments to vendors including utility and service providers.
Mayor Michael J. Cook announced code-enforcement follow-ups — letters sent to property owners concerning junk, junk vehicles and at-large dogs — and said he will attend the Buchanan County Economic Development Commission meeting on Jan. 23. Deputy Tyler Klenzman reported that the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department logged more than 44 hours of coverage in December and responded to calls for service, warrants and investigations. The Public Works representative reported snow-removal activity; firefighter Jarrod Lamphier said the department handled one medical call and two control burns since the prior meeting.
The council approved several appointments and administrative resolutions. Mayor Cook appointed JoDee Devlin as mayor pro tem and Evelyn Gilson as city treasurer for two-year terms; both appointments were ratified by unanimous council vote as Resolution 24-01. The council also appointed Paula Harvey as city clerk for two years by Resolution 24-02 and adopted Resolution 24-03 authorizing signatures on warrants. The Press Journal was designated the city’s official publication under Resolution 24-04. Council committee and board assignments for 2024–26 were announced.
The council approved a FY25 law contract in the amount of $24,882.00 — a per-capita rate of $58.00 based on the 2020 census population figure of 429 — by passage of Resolution 24-05. The council also approved Resolution 24-06 to certify delinquent nuisance abatement fees to property taxes for collection.
The meeting closed after a brief discussion of FY25 budget ideas; the clerk will incorporate suggestions into the draft budget for the next meeting. The council adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
