The Ireton City Council on Feb. 17 voted unanimously to approve first readings of two ordinances that will raise utility-related fees.
Ordinance 25-01, proposed to raise garbage fees by $1 to cover increased landfill gate charges, was approved on a motion by Ten Napel with Buyert seconding; the roll-call passed 4-0. Ordinance 25-02, proposing a 5% increase to the minimum water rate, was approved on a motion by Buyert with Mueller seconding; the roll-call passed 4-0.
Both ordinances were described as rate adjustments tied to operating costs. Each ordinance was scheduled for a second reading at the council's March 24 meeting, where the council will consider final adoption.
