The Osakis City Council officially read and adopted Ordinance No. 143 on Sept. 8, 2025, setting sidewalks and public-improvement duties for property owners and authorizing designated city officials to remove and assess costs for snow, ice, dirt and rubbish on enumerated streets.
The ordinance requires property owners and occupants adjacent to public sidewalks to remove snow and ice within 24 hours of its deposit and lists covered thoroughfares including parts of Main Street and county roads. It also authorizes the city to designate officials to remove snow and assess the cost against the abutting property when necessary; staff will keep cost records and provide them to the city clerk/treasurer for assessment.
Councilors discussed practical coordination with county plowing on County Road 82 (Main Street) and noted staff will include a summary and reminder in the city newsletter and explore assistance options for property owners on larger county-road sections.
The ordinance was read for the record and a motion to approve it carried.
