Activities director tells board 'we’ve had an unbelievable year' as students win state honors

Mister Shupp presented a broad activities report to the Treynor Community School District board, telling members: “We’ve had an unbelievable year across the board,” and walking through winter highlights and a spring preview of postseason schedules.

Shupp highlighted both boys’ and girls’ basketball reaching the state semifinals and multiple individual player honors. He named wrestling qualifiers Jett Sorensen and Maverick Hall, noting Maverick placed sixth at state. Fine arts accomplishments included multiple Allstate selections and high division ratings at state contests for band, choir, dance and solo musicians. He also noted community service projects such as a diaper drive and holiday toy drives conducted by activity teams.

Shupp detailed signings and postseason qualifiers: Nora Cones and Alex Lovely signed with Simpson; several students advanced to state competition in speech, and the district will host a state‑qualifying track meet later in the week. He pointed to unusually high participation rates—several activities reported 30+ student participants—and said new assistant coaching hires and support staff additions had helped sustain that involvement.

Board members asked clarifying questions about hosting logistics and the district’s streaming arrangement with Hudl; Shupp and other staff said the district is coordinating details with conference partners and coaches. The presentation was an informational item; the board took no formal action related to activities.
