Warren Committee adopts $2026 municipal budget, approves payments including school and county bills

Warren Township’s governing body unanimously adopted its 2026 municipal budget during a May 14 meeting, and approved a package of payments totaling $12,108,926.42 that includes school and county bills and sewer-utility charges.
Mayor Fine opened a public hearing on the budget and heard one public comment from resident Rick dePinho of Wilshire Road, who asked about the Hofheimer House referendum and the building’s maintenance costs. The committee closed the hearing and adopted Resolution No. 2026-132 to finalize the budget.
Committee members said the administration is pursuing cost-saving measures for 2027, including an evaluation of the State Benefits Health Plan, a road surfacing program and exploring shared services. Mayor Fine and Deputy Mayor Kian said they would meet with the township administrator and the chief financial officer to discuss additional cost-saving practices.
Separately, the committee approved Resolution No. 2026-133 authorizing payment of current bills totaling $12,108,926.42. The list attached to the resolution shows distributions including $4,085,196 to the Warren Township Board of Education, $1,730,895 to Watchung Hills Regional High School, and $5,087,070.96 to Somerset County, along with sewer utility and township expenses.
The budget-adoption vote and the payment resolution passed on unanimous roll-call votes.
