City staff updated the Pelican Rapids City Council on July 9 on construction progress at the new Aquatic Center and asked for payment approval on a contractor change request.
Kelly and Scott reported the exterior block and siding should be finished within days, interior blockwork was nearing completion, and crews will start pool deck work and deck drains in the coming weeks. Scott said slides and pool features are installed and Aqualogic has delivered the slide and pool feature set. He estimated building‑side work could be wrapped by the end of August, with remaining finish work and painting to follow.
Staff emphasized inspections and certification steps: the facility must pass a Department of Health inspection before opening, and the contractor’s one‑year construction warranty begins at substantial completion. Kelly said manufacturer warranties vary by item (pumps, windows, etc.), while the contractor’s workmanship warranty is typically one year; staff will schedule a punch‑walk near the 11th month to record defects for repair under warranty.
Council also approved payment request number 12 for ongoing construction costs after a motion and voice vote. Staff said they will provide training for pool systems and a video of mechanical and pump controls for staff use before the center opens.
No opening date was set at the meeting; staff said remaining work and inspections will determine the final timeline.
