The Pelican Rapids City Council on Oct. 8 approved two personnel actions for the police department.
The Police Chief asked the council to change Brienne Brandenberger’s status from full-time to part-time effective Oct. 19 and to approve the hire of Sam Holmes contingent on a successful background check and psychological evaluation. "What I'm going to ask the council to do is actually two things: one to approve the changing of the status of Brienne Brandenberger from full-time to part time effective October 19th ... and then the other is to approve the hire of Sam Holmes upon the successful completion of his background and psychological evaluation," the Police Chief said.
Council members approved both motions by voice vote. The council did not record roll-call tallies in the minutes for these routine personnel actions.
The council discussion noted the department’s need for flexible coverage, describing part-time status as a way to fill last-minute shifts and vacations. The council did not amend pay-step details beyond confirming that Sam Holmes would start at step one if hired.
The council next moved on to other agenda items.
