The LaSalle County Salary & Labor Committee voted unanimously on June 24 to increase nursing‑home PRN pay from $40 to $45 per hour to reduce the facility’s reliance on costly agency nurses.
Committee members said agency nurse rates run roughly $80 per hour and argued raising PRN pay would make the county’s PRN pool a more attractive, local alternative. The committee also discussed lifting or removing the cap on the number of PRNs the nursing home may maintain to give managers more flexibility to staff shifts with local personnel rather than outside agencies.
The committee referenced a market analysis provided for the 2027 budget and agreed the PRN increase could be implemented through management direction; the committee’s vote approved the $45/hour PRN pay.
The motion passed by roll call with all members recorded in favor. Committee members noted that a stronger PRN program could both cut agency expenditures and provide a pathway for PRNs to become regular employees if desired.
Next steps: facility management will consider adjustments to PRN slot caps and present any operational changes as part of the 2027 budget or management decisions.
