Dean Button told the board that the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) asked the city to solicit bids even though the city’s earlier community crossings grant application was not funded because state funding had been limited earlier in the year. He said INDOT explained there is a Senate bill being considered that would add $75 million to the program; INDOT asked the city to bid now and to withhold contract award until INDOT confirms matching grant funds. "So, we're not, you know, surprising anybody if this doesn't get funded," the presenter said.
The board approved the request to advertise and directed staff to make clear in the notice to bidders that award will be contingent on INDOT’s funding decision.
