Grundy Center approves second readings of mobile food vendor and special-events ordinances; routine business passes

The Grundy Center City Council met Oct. 6 and approved second readings of two ordinances aimed at regulating mobile food vendors and special events.
Councilmember Rasmussen moved and Councilmember Mcdonald seconded the second reading of Ordinance 586, which would add Chapter 125 to the city code establishing licensing, rules and regulations for mobile food service vendors. The motion carried four ayes.
Councilmember Lamp moved and Councilmember Mcdonald seconded the second reading of Ordinance 587, proposing Chapter 126 to set licensing, rules and regulations for special events. That motion also carried four ayes.
The meeting opened with several routine approvals. Councilmember Smith moved and Councilmember Lamp seconded approval of the minutes from the Sept. 22 regular session, the September bills list and the Treasurer's Report; the motion carried four ayes. The council also approved the annual liquor license for Brothers Market at 1400 G Avenue and authorized submission of the FY2025 Urban Renewal Annual Report to the Iowa Department of Management by Dec. 1, 2025.
City finance materials presented a claims report listing vendors and amounts with a reported claims total of $257,509.81. The clerk also summarized September expenditures by fund with a reported total of $426,907 and revenues totaling $574,094 as shown in the meeting packet.
The council took no further debate on the ordinances at second reading and did not record any amendments. The meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m.; the next regular session is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, at 6:30 p.m.
