Pelican Rapids — The council heard a report Oct. 29 from Economic Development Director Jordan Gman and advertising firm MWC about a summer campaign intended to drive visitors to Pelican Rapids during construction-related downtown slowdowns, and discussed options for a holiday advertising push.
Dan Cash of MWC said the campaign used regional radio, podcasts and live broadcasts to signal that Pelican Rapids businesses were open during construction and that MWC’s team drove through town regularly to check on campaign messaging. He said the firm can provide analytics tied to a city landing page to measure responses to individual commercials.
Jordan and MWC representatives discussed a proposed holiday package that would include live broadcasts, weather sponsorships, a gift guide and targeted outdoor programming aimed at hunters, anglers and weekend travelers. MWC suggested working with the EDA board on how liquor-store funds might be used to support some advertising spots and recommended the EDA consider the plan at its next meeting so that an advertising schedule could be finalized before the holiday season.
No formal council funding decision was made; staff and MWC agreed to seek EDA review and to return to council with recommendations for any city-funded or liquor-store-funded ad buys.
