Chief of Police Todd Quon asked the council to formally add emergency-manager duties to the police chief job description, saying he has performed the role administratively for about 14 years and believes it fits within the chief’s responsibilities.
“I’m looking to include the role of emergency manager within that job description,” Quon said. Council approved the amendment by voice vote.
Quon also reported a conditional offer to a new police officer pending background, psychological and physical clearances, and asked the council to approve a promotion to sergeant for a current officer (Iverson). Both personnel items were approved during the meeting.
Councilmembers discussed staffing levels and expressed support for filling positions promptly so the department reaches its budgeted staffing level.
Next steps: Complete pre-employment checks for the new hire and process the promotion paperwork for the sergeant position.
