Council debated three options — replace as a single director, split responsibilities into two positions, or appoint a deputy to cover licensing duties. Members said the city may not be large enough to split the role and flagged additional costs for two full-time positions. The council agreed to change the job description so a new hire must obtain required water/wastewater licensure within five years of hiring; the motion to proceed with a full-time director at grade 10 and advertise the position with that licensure condition (motion by Soy, second by Brick) carried by voice vote.
Council indicated it will begin advertising immediately and will consider deputy or split options later if needed. Ron and other staff will help with transition and to advise on realistic licensure timelines.
