The Paynesville City Council voted to hire the law firm Kennedy & Graven as the city's new city attorney, with the appointment effective Jan. 1.
Council members said they narrowed several RFP responses in a pre-meeting working session and settled on Kennedy & Graven as the preferred candidate. "I'd entertain a motion to hire Kennedy & Graven as the new City attorney," a council member said during discussion, and a motion by Sony to hire the firm was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The decision followed a brief exchange in which councilors confirmed the candidate list and asked for public comment; no public opposition was recorded. Council did not provide a roll-call tally in the meeting transcript; members voted by voice. The city will begin transition and contracting steps ahead of the Jan. 1 start date, and staff indicated standard onboarding and agreement finalization will follow.
