Hammond controller reports about $1.67M unallocated; councilman presses for timing on Indy Boulevard work and light-pole repairs

Megan Flores, the board's controller and a member of the Hammond Capital Improvement Board, told members on March 2 that the city ended last year with $2.166 million unallocated and, after items already passed, is "sitting at about 1.67 million dollars of unallocated funds" going into the new year. Flores said she has not yet received the first-quarter budget but expects to release those figures in the coming weeks and anticipates that amount will be at least $1 million.
The controller's update framed the board's short-term spending capacity as members considered three funding allocations later in the meeting.
During "matters from mayor, council, and other departments," Councilman Warpole relayed three questions he had received from constituents. He asked whether there are plans or a timeline to repave Indy Boulevard between 175th and the indicated end point; whether there are any plans related to an entity or place referred to as "Southeastern"; and whether the city could repaint decorative light poles whose paint is chipping. City staff responded that the Indy Boulevard work is a state Department of Transportation project and that the board would consult the state's transportation improvement plan to try to find a schedule; they said there are no current plans for the Southeastern question; and they noted that the poles can be painted or touched up but that doing so would require funding and resources.
No formal board action on the constituent items was recorded. The board also noted the next meeting is scheduled for March 16.
