NEWCASTLE — The Newcastle Zoning Board of Appeals approved an amendment June 24 to the First Congregational Church’s special-use permit to incorporate a set of solar panels shown on the submitted plan.
Board members said the planning board and the architectural review board had reviewed the proposal and reported no objections. In a resolution read into the record, a board member described the church as a long-standing neighborhood institution and noted the amendment would not alter the character of the area. "There'll be no adverse impact on the environment by doing that," the motion statement said, adding that the panels would reduce fuel-related pollution.
A motion to approve the amendment was seconded and the board voted unanimously in favor.
Next steps: the board's legal office has prepared a resolution memorializing the vote; the applicant will proceed under the amended special-use permit and continue coordination with building and planning staff as needed.
