Board approves routine engineering agreements, tree replacement and schedules March hearings

At its Feb. 19 meeting the Hammond City Board of Public Works and Safety approved a series of routine administrative items: a $60,000 CIB allocation for ongoing professional services with Neece Engineering; a $2,028.27 supplemental payment to Reeth-Riley Construction for Holman Avenue tree replacements; five minor right-of-way permits; police department disposal authorizations; and hearings on March 5, 2026, for a rental registration matter and a late business license.
Engineering staff described the Neece agreement as "routine" professional services for tasks that the department cannot do in-house, such as concentrated CAD and survey work. The board noted CIB had approved the funding allocations at its meeting the prior night and approved the agreements and items by voice votes.
The tree replacement item reflected the city's 50% split with the contractor for trees planted outside the normal season that later died; staff described the $2,028.27 as "a nominal amount" equivalent to the city's share of replacement costs for two or three trees. The board set the rental registration hearing and the late business license hearing for March 5, 2026.
