The Hammond City Board of Public Works and Safety approved a $120,490 Capital Improvement Board (CIB) funding allocation and accepted an engineering recommendation to award a quote to H3 Concrete to repair an overgrown drainage ditch along JF Mahoney Drive on Feb. 19, 2026.
Engineering Department staff told the board the ditch segment — running south from the north end of the sound wall near the 80/94 interchange — "is overgrown, it looks in bad condition, it's difficult to maintain," and that the board had hired Neece Engineering to design a fix that includes a concrete gutter to improve drainage and maintenance. Staff said the Capital Improvement Board met the previous night and approved funding for the project.
The board moved and seconded approval of both the funding allocation and the engineer's recommendation to award the quote to H3 Concrete; the motion carried by voice vote.
The contract award is pending final signatures. Engineering staff said the work is aimed at making the ditch easier to maintain and to reduce standing water and cleaning difficulties along the JF Mahoney Drive corridor.
