Kalona council commits $60,000 in LMI funds to Pleasantview Home, approves Northland agreement and other routine items

The council approved a $60,000 LMI commitment to Pleasantview Home’s Post Acute Care Units, authorized a Northland Securities financial-planning agreement (not to exceed $7,000 per review), amended a 28E inspection agreement with Riverside, and approved a Nutmeg Cemetery deed for Maureen Rich.
During its Sept. 16 regular meeting, the Kalona City Council approved several routine and project-related items.
Pleasantview Home staff Jeffery Schmidt and Larry Swartzendruber updated the council on current and future projects. The council committed $60,000 in Low- and Moderate-Income (LMI) funds toward future Post Acute Care Units, to be paid in two installments; the motion was made by Bender and seconded by Spitzer and carried with all voting yes.
The council also approved a Strategic Financial Planning Agreement with Northland Securities for potential water and sewer projects. The agreement is limited to $7,000 per water and sewer financial planning review; the motion to approve was made by G Schmidt and seconded by Bender and passed unanimously.
Council amended the 28E agreement with the City of Riverside for building inspection services to an as-needed, hourly arrangement (motion by Spitzer, seconded by G Schmidt). The council approved a Nutmeg Cemetery deed for Maureen Rich (motion by G Schmidt, seconded by Bender). In addition, the council approved the agenda, minutes from Sept. 3 and a batch of bills and transfers listed in the meeting packet.
Chad Ellis of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office provided a short public-safety update. A public hearing on the city’s intent to sell 209 5th Street received no oral or written comments and was closed.
