Jesup board approves consent items, policy updates and AEA representative

The Jesup Community School District Board of Directors met Nov. 10 and approved a slate of routine business, several policy actions and an application for special education administrative funding.
President Masteller called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the board, with members Bell, Clayberg, Miller and Youngblut present, unanimously approved the agenda and previous minutes.
The board approved consent items that included purchase orders for district construction and athletics work: Epic Furniture for $33,405.44 (bond funds) for final items related to additions and remodels; Blue Grass Sod for $47,618.80 (Legacy funds) for two ball fields; Douglas for $18,624.00 (Legacy funds) for NW diamond poles/backstop; and Big 3 Construction for a slab and backstop-post installation totaling $31,424 (Legacy funds). The consent bundle also included November claims, October financial and transportation reports, two open enrollment approvals, contract renewals and fundraisers, several personnel resignations and a recommended hire (Kim Lauritzen for kitchen), and a change to the staff handbook raising teacher per-period substitute pay to $15.
On finance, the board approved an application to the School Budget Review Committee requesting $2,390.76 to cover special education administrative costs associated with the River Hills Consortium for the 2026–2027 school year.
The board handled multiple policy items: it approved the board policy primer on second reading and, by unanimous vote, approved new policies covering student conduct, artificial intelligence and nutrition while waiving a second reading.
In organizational business, the board approved Dr. Anthony Reid as the district's representative to AEA District 4 Central Rivers. Superintendent Mr. Kohagen provided an update on several smaller construction projects, including work at the baseball/softball complex, and noted the annual organizational board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 8. He also collected a list of board members who will attend the IASB convention on Nov. 20 for registration.
