Bayport council approves consent agenda, amends joint powers agreement and accepts grant for police cameras

Bayport’s City Council approved the consent agenda at its Oct. 7 meeting, adopting routine minutes and financial items and approving several administrative agreements and purchases.

Items 1–8 on the consent agenda were approved by roll call after a council member moved to adopt the package "with the joint powers agreement as amended." The amendment reflected language inserted by the city attorney and had previously been accepted by Washington County as part of the renewal of the joint powers agreement for the county's mass emergency notification system (CodeRED). A council member summarized the added language as relating to indemnification and insurance requirements.

Other consent items approved included the appointment of Wendy Robelhon to the library board, approval of a special event permit for the Heroes Sturgeon Excursion fishing tournament at Lakeside Park on Oct. 12, and the purchase of new police body and fleet cameras using a grant from the Fred C. Anderson Foundation. The motion was moved by Council member John and seconded by Council member Connie; a roll‑call vote recorded each council member voting in favor (Carson, Do, Gilmore, Hill) along with Mayor Hansen. The motion passed.

The council did not debate the individual administrative items at length; the city attorney and staff noted the joint powers amendment was intended to protect the county and the city and focused on standard indemnification and insurance provisions.

What’s next: The police reported that upgrades tied to the new cameras and equipment are expected to proceed and that implementation will continue into the coming months using the awarded grant funds.
